How Cold Weather Affects Vehicle

Winter is Here!

Winter quotation by Susan OrleanReady or not Winter will officially enter your calendar on December 21, 2018, the Winter Solstice. It is a phenomenon where we experience the shorthest daylight and the longest night of the year.

As Winter Season begins, we are not the ones affected by the cold weather. Your vehicles are affected too. Here’s how cold weather affects vehicle:

  • Oil

Thick oil doesn’t flow freely in a cold weather compare to a warm weather. Thinner oil is a good option but, oil that’s too thin may not be able to provide sufficient protection for a car’s engine. The best way to find the oil you need is to consult the owner’s manual or speak to a mechanic.

  • Battery

Car battery works harder to start during winter. The ability of the battery to provide power to start and run a vehicle is lessen. It is advisable to always check the charge of your car’s battery.

  • Tire Pressure

Tire pressure drops 1 psi for every 10°F drop in air temperature. Make it a habit to check your tires occasionally.

Don’t let let the cold weather stop you on the road.

A snow day literally and figuratively falls from the sky, unbidden, and seems like a thing of wonder.” — Susan Orlean
